Getting waisted, the fashion way
Geschreven door Tiany Kiriloff
Corsets and women have pretty much lived in friction for centuries as these rather gruesome fashion utensils used to be catalogued as torture garments to cinch the waist and make your middle look impossible tiny.
Luckily these concerns are now bygones and after having had a corset revival in the 90’s – blame Madonna for that – we now thank the Kardashian – Jenner clan for yet another great comeback all for the good cause of ‘beatifying’ the body. And no stress, it isn’t as painful as it looks and there are a lot of fun and fashionable ways to integrate the sartorial corset in your #OOTD.
Designers as Balenciaga, Isabel Marant, Balmain, Loewe and Prada featured the accessory in their spring ’17 collections. Mainstream fashion adopted the trend and eventually turned it into a corset belt, which is much easier to style.
I decided to give it a go and bought myself the extremely popular Zara corset belt, which has currently become my new best friend as I use it to give several of my outfits the finishing touch. This outfit was obviously not an exception, starring my current favourite floor-sweeping skirt by online discovery Kalmar… the resort collection focussed on effortless separates in audacious pretty, exotic prints and soft floaty fabrics. Ideal for any type of getaway you might have in mind any time soon!
Anyhow this is how I like to do the corset belt, but obviously there are many other ways of doing ‘cinched’ the proper way, just keep in mind that it’s the perfect way to obtain an hourglass figure and accentuate your curves and let’s be honest, aren’t we all into that?
- The corset belt is the ideal tool to give your monochrome outfits an editorial twist.
- If you love oversized things but don’t want to feel like a potato bag you can always scoop up your oversized dress with a corset belt to give you a sharper waist, like Natasha Goldenberg who gave her oversized dress more silhouette by wearing a leather Loewe example.
- Do you want to give your plain T-shirt some extra élan? Spice it up by wearing a corset belt above. Your jeans and white T never looked this haute couture.
Don’t be afraid to buckle up your clothes. It’ll give your daily look an extra dimension. Go and get waisted!
