Why we all want to be a bit of Coco
Geschreven door Chanel's Little Black Jacket
Dear Coco Chanel...
I can still recall Alexander Wang’s little niece wearing a cute petit Chanel bag a couple of seasons ago and that’s when it really hit me that really everybody wants a piece of Chanel. I guess this tendency has been going on for a while ever since Mr. Lagerfeld started mastering Chanel’s fashion fundaments… However, believe it or not… there was a certain moment that after decades Coco’s fashion aesthetics had somehow become “unfashionable’. I blame it on the crazy 1960’s were according to me people had no clue of what style was and I guess we had to go through the wild to fully understand the fashion language Coco had written and preserved till the end of her days. Coco was fearless in many ways and courageous enough to reject change and stick to the imperium she had created.
Fashion Icons come in all sizes & ages:
My dear Gabrielle was very passionate about conquering the fashion world and had in many ways this admirable inner eagerness that was just compelling. At a certain point she defined the looks of the entire beau monde… think about the craze she caused when she chopped her hair transforming it into a bob and once more introducing the 'garçonne' look that was copied by many. She was all about stylish comfort and was often spotted flaunting her two-tone flats, which nowadays still make a lot of fashion hearts go boom boom boom. She sported her eyeglasses in a period it was not done and was often seen with a lovely healthy tan, which in that day and age was out of the question (as a tan belonged to farmers and people working on the fields)… She did so many things that hadn’t been seen and the entire beau monde imitated her and her fashion ways.
"To achieve great drams, one must first dream"
Coco persisted in what she declared as ‘her fashion’. I thank her for her slight sense of stubbornness, which probably is the reason I have turned into one of her many iconic must-haves and undoubtedly Coco’s fashion state of mind added truckloads of value to the brand Chanel is nowadays. Of course we needed another genius such as Karl to interpret the heritage Chanel had left and to give it the modern days touch it needed… so yes, I call myself very fortunate and feel delighted to still be so very wanted.
“Legend is the consecration of celebrity.”
The magic of the double-C is perhaps still a bit enigmatic, although I’m convinced that the perseverance that Chanel stands for still reflects in all it’s accessories and fashion. It provides women all over the world with a certain empowerment, confidence and sense of satisfaction as for example a 2.55 is something a girl saves up for and often tends to buy for herself. It’s like a milestone and the moment you’re able to afford Chanel you turn into a real girl… but then again I’m The Little Black Jacket, so I’m just guessing…

As you’ve already noticed, Chanel had some choice words, I once more leave you with perhaps one of my favorite quotes…
“Since everything is in our heads, we had better not lose them.”
And once more lady Kirilove had some fun wearing me, this time she took me on one of her beloved vintage trips. I must say I enjoyed being belted that way… qu’est que vous en pensez?
