Viktor & Rolf 2016 Couture
Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren once again tested the limits of wearability during Paris Haute Couture. The effect, however, was delightfully spontaneous.
I had the wonderful opportunity to watch the show live from the second row. Those who follow me on Instagram already had the pleasure of seeing a tiny glimps.
Surrealism was in full effect on the Victor & Rolf Spring 2016 Couture runway. They did not downplay anything, quite the contrary. Every single silhouette was an explosion of true art. The collection, existing solely out of items in the crispest of whites, was impossible to take your eyes off of.
The Dutch designers started with a rather plain dress. The eye catcher on this item was a structural, Cubist inspired face, Dr. Martens boots and an elegant, typical V&R black floral brooch. As the show progressed it was as if I had been hypnotized. The faces on the dresses became greater, larger and at the end absolutely monumental.
It was one hell of a ride. Viktor and Rolf are known for their exuberant creations and for flirting with the wearability of their items. I couldn’t help but feel slightly sorry for the models… I can only imagine how heavy those pieces must have been!
Another struggle they experienced is not being completely able to see where they were going. They did it majestically though and the fact that the Belgian girl choir Scala was guiding them made it even more special. They sang an amazing version of Radiohead’s biggest hit ‘Creep’. All of this together gave me goosebumps, I must admit.
This was yet again quite the statement and they made it absolutely clear that fashion is the highest possible art form.
Besides the amazing show Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren also celebrated 10 years of Flowerbomb, their first women’s fragrance. Fun fact: It was the first perfume I ever owned.
So many scents have come and gone since but Flowerbomb stood the test of time. It’s a floral oriental with notes of jasmine, rose, orchid and patchouli. Everything about this particular fragrance has always appealed to me; the bottle, the scent, the pioneering… I love everything about it.
If you like Chanel Coco Mademoiselle and Stella, I bet you’ll love this perfume. Looks like Viktor & Rolf not only impress us on the catwalk but also in our daily lives!
