Trip to India with Kim Stumpf
Geschreven door Kim Stumpf
There is so much I want to tell you. So much to do, so little time. I love my job and I don't have the feeling I am "working". But still, a lot of deadlines to reach! The things that make me happy are often creative collaborations. 1 of the most inspiring trips as a designer was my journey through India.
Being selected as an emerging talent (respresenting Belgium during the contest) for the Mittelmoda fashion awards in 2007, I have met the Indian designer, Neelanjan Gosh. He invited me to come to India. 2 years later I went to India with my good friend Wouwie. We stayed in the house of our Indian friend. His mother could not speak English, but showed a great smile and gave me a special souvenir in my hand.
Neelanjan translated: "This is for good luck and prosperity".
I still keep it in my wallet since our meeting.
2 good friends, 1 guitar, 5 flight tickets, 6 weeks and 10 cities later, we had over 1000 exciting impressions! And then, as the cherry on the cake, we were lucky to take part in the yearly Ganesha festival, a huge festival all over the country. Everybody on the street dancing like hell. A quite intense and inspiring experience, where people throw colour pigments.
And then, there is the Ayurvedic massage, 1 of the best massages in the world, you should try it!
I love the country with its amazing contrasts, the people are very open and the hospitality is just amazing. We have visited handcraft studios, which I am still working with for the artisanal hand work in my collections. They make the most amazing hand embroideries in the world. The people who are doing the handwork are often men (not women) with very fine and elegant fingers.
Here you can see 2 artisanal embroidered scarves from our collection.
