Tiany at the library
Geschreven door Tiany Kiriloff
I love reading books and I still adore the feel of a good paperback. Preferably wearing my most comfy UGGs and matching outfit. The perfect combo to unwind!
I always read English literature as it is after all my mother tongue or let's say the language I first learned to read and I adore reading books that involve the imaginary world of kids such as 'Where the wild things are', probably one of my favourite stories ever! I do have to admit these moments are limited to when I’m on a holiday as at home, my spare moments are pretty much scarce or limited to the bedtime stories I get to read to my kids, these are preferably in Spanish as it’s the language I speak with them.
My love for books has however never ever tempted me to spend any time at all in a library, not even now that I have kids and that borrowing from a library would be much more cost efficient. Meaning I could be able to spend more money at my favourite shop La Vie en Rose.
I really don’t mean to offend anybody at all, but libraries give me the creeps and I therefore would never ever be capable of working in one, unless you’d pay me in Chanel or so.
I grew up in a Google-less world, which meant that I had to dive into encyclopaedias and never ending archives to obtain every little bit of information necessary for my school essays. I remember spending hours of endless search in absolute silence and no Instagram at all. Both to be defined as boring and utterly annoying.
However these are not the mayor reasons for me not being capable of being a librarian. I never thought that I would admit it, but I have a minor case of bacteriophobia and I remember obsessing over washing my hands after every book touched.
So the truth is out, voila, there it is… it turns out I have a compulsive disorder and that I’m maniacal about the germs I believe circulate in these public spaces. I have these wild ideas of bacteria floating all over the pages of library books and am mostly already disgusted by the thought on its own.
Eureka for the Internet and for laptops that are inhabited with my own Kirilove germs and hallelujah for brand new books that have hopefully never been touched before.
