The Sweetest Manicure in Milan

When I first arrived in Milan, I suffered for the lack of good nail salons.

Having grown up in New York, I had my pick of the salons that dotted every floor at my local mall and that lined the city blocks from uptown to downtown when I moved to Manhattan.

But I couldn't find a decent manicurist to save my cuticles when I moved to Milan in 2005. I can't even count how many times I entered a spa and left deflated because I no longer experienced the "I can't stop staring at my nails, they look so good and shiny" warm and chipper feeling I regularly enjoyed back home in NY. I mean the "half moon" design might work today now that different variations of the classic French manicure are enjoying the limelight, but that's not what I was going for back then when, for some reason, painting my entire nail bed was a foreign concept.

After a while I just gave up and resorted to handling my nails at home – as long as they were clean and tidy, everything was thumbs-up! Then around 2012 my girlfriend Annina introduced me to a brilliant “taste bar” that featured spa treatments, vintage clothing, fresh juices and smoothies, and, yes god yes, NAIL services!

Founded by creative force Gaia Venuti, Bahama Mama is an unconventionally chic salon near the Naviglio Grande. After a massive period of research Gaia nailed her particular formula of beauty bar perfection. Bahama Mama is a haven where you enter to the sound of music icons like Sade, Madonna, Beyonce, to the scent of Dr. Vranjes’ potions and elixirs, to a display of incredibly curated vintage and secondhand pieces, to the laughter of old and new friends (every one goes there), and WHERE you exit with the prettiest, shiniest and sweetest manicure in Milan.

Check out Bahama Mama for yourself, Viale Col di Lana, 1, 20136 Milano.
