Work hard, play hard!

Hello Belmodo.tv!

With the last  waves of the Mme Grès opening gone by, I’m now working a lot already on new exhibitions and new stories for you guys. Never a dull moment here at MoMu! Here’s some of the books I'm reading for next year’s exhibition on 50 years of the Antwerp fashion department, and 350 for the whole Academy of Fine Arts.

Walter Van Beirendonck is curating this project throughout the city and different museums, it will be very exciting next fall!

I’m also doing some research on the Abraham archive of printed silks in Switzerland for our upcoming exhibition for spring 2013, which has no title yet. I should really write the press release and find a good title, but my muse is failing me -or maybe it’s the fashion weeks that are disrupting my attention span, as I’m sure they do with most of you. Maybe I should ask Mary Katrantzou for the silk prints exhibition, I love her artistic textile designs a lot, especially in her latest show at London Fashion Week.

I just got the flyer for the solo show in Antwerp of Renato Nicolodi, the Belgian sculptor who made the architectural, black concrete elements for the Mme Grès exhibition. His own show opens in October 2012 at galerie Van de weghe, I look forward to seeing it. It’s great that he will have this show at the same time that his work is shown at MoMu.

Renato is a real talent who designed together with our in house architect the sculptural elements for the exhibition, that hark back to classical references (Maya, Hellenistic, Roman architecture), all the while presenting us with modern, abstract shapes that testify of Nicolodi’s own vision. You will see how their work interrelates when you visit the exhibition.

Also, whereas Mme Grès wanted to become a sculptor and became a couturier, Renato is a painter who became a sculptor.

I’m off to London today for a fashion conference, but everything here’s geared towards our 10th anniversary that we'll celebrate in style this Friday! As a treat to all our loyal and new fans, we open the doors for free on that day, so you can all come and watch Mme Grès and celebrate 10 years of MoMu exhibitions with us!

PS: don’t forget you can also still visit Manon Kündig’s exhibition in the gallery downstairs, for free. Her Bowerbird graduation collection is amazing.
