H&M never ever ceases to disappoint. So while most of us - including me - are totally looking forward to the Isabel Marant collab that will hit stores very soon, I have been drooling all over the exciting capsule collectuion of former Academie of Antwerp student Minju Kim. Originally from South Korea, but elevated in creative Antwerp she managed to win the 2nd edition of H&M's Design Award. A crowning glory for herself but also for the Royal Academy of Antwerp which is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary.
Minju Kim was selected about a year ago to participate in H&M’s design competition which not only offers the winner an amount of € 50 000,- but his/her creations really actually go into production and are sold in H&M stores worldwide. Pretty much a dream for a young designer who's trying to make it in the world of fashion and therefor she's totally excited about the launch of her collection … in stores on October 17th. For the occasion she’ll be styling an entire H&M window in the city of Antwerp and we’re already expecting that to be exceptional.
Her collection consists out of 9 garments and 2 accessories and H&M pretty much respected the original designs. Although small alternations were needed to make the collection just a bit more commercial, most textures, oversized silhouettes, marshmallow colours and Manga prints were maintained.
The good news show for Minju Kim continues, as Opening Ceremony in New York, London and LA have decided to sell the “High Street meets Young Designer” collection.
I was not only part of this great competition in Stockholm (which was held during Fashion Week in January) but H&M also offered me the opportunity to play around with the divine Minju Kim collection ... Totally my cup of tea as in colorful & playful!
Of course there is more to Minju Kim, so start making your wish lists and check the rest of the collection here.
