There’s a dynamic to travelling that regenerates your soul and fills you up with new energy and a re-born drive to conquer the world.
Travelling offers you new experiences that enrich you and educate you at the same time, resulting also in amplified inspiration. I was three months the first time I set foot on a plane and ever since I’ve been discovering the world. But before I tell the story of my love for travel, I’d like to focus on the travels of a lady that changed the fashion world and pretty much single-handedly invented modern dressing.
“Be curious and travel the world now that you’re still capable…”
It was the Englishman Arthur Capel - aka Boy, hence the fabulous well-known bag - that attracted a young Mademoiselle Chanel to the Normandy coast, more specifically to the beautiful town of Deauville, where Chanel opened her first fashion boutique in 1913. Mademoiselle Chanel immediately introduced a more sporty sense of style that would eventually revolutionize women’s wardrobes.
She liberated women from corsets, had them strutting around in trousers and stripped their style down to the elegant essentials … free from feathers, lace and bustiers. Continuously taking inspiration from the men’s wardrobes she even managed to turn the fisherman-inspired striped jersey into a Chanel staple that looked chic and ultra feminine, obviously topped off with the right amount of pearls.
The French Riviera (where Mademoiselle Chanel had her villa La Pausa) and Venice were also frequently visited by Coco herself and most definitely contributed to Gabrielle’s exceptional state of mind.
“You’ll never go until you go.”
Luckily the legacy that Mademoiselle Gabrielle Chanel left behind has been cultivated and reinvented for years by the genius mind of Karl Lagerfeld. His SS2016 collection was an ode to the travelling double-C and had his models strutting around in the chicest ever 'travel wear' combined with the most desirable wheelie carry-on bags ever.
My sister from another mister Jill Shaw and I teamed up to experience the luxury of travelling as prescribed by Chanel. It instantly elevates you and has you feeling divine and pretty much ready to conquer the entire world.
