I love music. Perhaps even more than I love fashion ...
Because of my music & storytelling blog A Polaroid Story I’ve been asked to DJ at different events and gigs. I always pushed it away, because I didn’t have the balls to do it, but at some point I decided to give it a try. So that’s how I end up selecting music from time to time at parties & events. I play very eclectic, but everything from r'n'b, hiphop, rap, soul, funk, jazz, etc.
Last w-end I played for the 1st time at a new club in Brussels called Bloody Louis for a party concept called LAPREMICE, which is targeted towards a crowd that loves hiphop & r’n’b music.
I had to close the night, which was a 1st and made me a bit nervous, because this basically means that you’ll have to entertain the crowd that is still in the club at 04:00 with music that hasn’t been played in the 5 hours before you.
Not an easy task but I think I managed to please the still heavily packed club (!!!) with my selection. I’m not the best mixer, my transitions still need some work and practice, (ahum) but I do believe I’m a good selector plus … I’m a DJ for WOMEN.
Don’t get me wrong, that doesn’t mean I won’t play the harder stuff, but making sure women are dancing and not standing still is always my main goal when I play at a party.
Here are a few pictures from the night at Bloody Louis.
I’ll leave you with my current top 5 (club) tracks. A bit ratchet but I can appreciate that from time to time. Enjoy!
