Hurray! Mme Grès: Sculptural Fashion is now open for business!
Yesterday, the press previews started around lunchtime, with a gradual buildup of previews until the vernissage. Here are some pics of the exhibition space with the final installations of Mme Grès, in confrontation with contemporary designers like Haider Ackermann’s sculptural silhouettes.
Jean Paul Gaultier’s iconic bustier draped dress blending his own signature with that of Mme Grès, which he retweeted yesterday.
3 similar dresses in bright colors by AF Vandevorst, draped in another way every time.
And my favourite dress of the exhibition, the last Mme Grès dress ever made, with a voluminous back, that reminds me of the Japanese avant-garde designers from the 1980s, who blew away classical body shapes.
I will dearly miss the sympathetic French colleagues from the Galliera Museum, who spent a few weeks with us building up the exhibition and helped us through the whole process of redeveloping the existing exhibition. Here I am -wearing a draped silk dress by Tim Van Steenbergen- with Galliera director Olivier Saillard and Anne Denesle, head of communication.
But also the Galliera collection department, Corinne Dom and Alexandre Samson, together with my Parisienne intern Chloë.
Ooh, and there’s also a beautiful catalogue -€ 39,95 and available at Copyright Bookshop. Here you see our director Kaat Debo together with proud editor Gautier Platteau (Hannibal), fondling the first copy of the edition.
The book contains tons of glamorous pictures by Henry Clarke and Richard Avedon, texts by the curators at Galliera, etchings by Mme Grès, and new pictures of the contemporary silhouettes. Here’s one of my favourite pictures with Barbra Streisand by Richard Avedon, in a minimalistic Grès poncho. So glamourous!
The evening was filled with splendid people: friends, designers, colleagues, even a minister! Here are some snapshots I managed to take in between kissing and waving to everybody.
You can find more pictures of both the exhibition and the people on our MoMu website.
PS: Tonight I'm attending the opening of ‘Atelier Solarshop Forever’, my friends Piëtro and Jan-Jan’s pop-up store that turns into a permanent store. Their new stuff looks amazing! Take a peek at their website or go see the new goodies this weekend.
