Discover the Little Black Jacket by Chanel.
Think post WWII period, Gabrielle -Coco- Chanel had by then revolutionized female fashion with creations that had liberated women from the gruesomeness of the corset and added adornment such as pretty strings of pearls. Coco introduced revolutionary classics such as the Little Black Dress, the suit and many other creations that borrowed references of men’s wear including her legendary jersey, a tissue that up to then had foremost been used for men’s undergarments.
The ever so elegant and amazing Gabrielle was the very first designer to launch her very own signature scent: Chanel No.5, 5 because a fortune-teller told her it was her lucky number... which apparently it was. Coco once explained that according to her “perfume is the unseen, unforgettable, ultimate accessory of fashion... It heralds your arrival and prolongs your departure”. How does that count as a quote? She was extremely good at that; her one-liners still inspire fashion and individuals to act in the most fashinable way
The outbreak of World War II introduced a bit of an unfortunate period, Coco was forced to shut down her business and took a break from fashion. I guess her self-enforced exile triggered the fashion revolution she was about to further unleash.
“Innovation! One cannot be forever innovating. I want to create classics.” Dixit Coco and that is when she designed me…
It was at the age of 70 that Gabrielle decided to re-launch Chanel. I was introduced then and although I had been part of her wardrobe for quite a while… I can still recall the moment I descended from the faceted-mirrored spiral staircase at the boutique in the Rue Cambon number 31. A moment of invigorating excitement that ever since has made me one of the ever so timeless and very much wanted Chanel pieces. Anno 2012 I come in different versions, but I’m still the Little Black Jacket, the most versatile and desirable Chanel classic… don’t you think?
I know, I don’t come with a moderate price card, but believe me, I’m worth your every penny… I’m hand-stitched and well equipped with the finest silk lining. I hide a gilt chain on the inside hem as a weight to keep me in perfect shape following the contours of the one wearing me and I also offer the necessary additional paneling that makes it possible for me to expand up to 3 sizes, I’m really unique you know. And yes… I’ve been copied endlessly, but just as the Duke of Westminster once proclaimed: "There is only one Chanel", and that is partly moi or at least the great lady who imagined me.
Wear me once and chances are you’ll become addicted to me, as I can even make your shabbiest jeans look exquisite and as I’m combinable with every single piece in your wardrobe. It appears now that lady Miss Kirilove (like the name) has been offered the opportunity to wear me as she pleases... maybe you should ask her why ladies become ecstatic when I’m around…
Stay tuned as I have many more stories to tell and in the meantime let me just leave you behind with some Coco wisdom.
“I don't understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little - if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that`s the day she has a date with destiny. And it`s best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.”
