Ever since I bumped into the mighty fine looking exemplars of Norwegian brand Tom Wood, I’ve been obsessed with signet rings for quite a while now.
You may or may not know that signet rings have been around for ages (1800BC to be precise). They were used in Ancient Egypt as a distinctive personal signature that was necessary to seal documents. Along the way they were also used to signify authority of its bearer and they became a symbol of power mostly amongst aristocrats and royals. Signet rings were always engraved and in times also monogrammed and they often showcased the coat of arms of a certain royal family.
Nowadays these historical & sartorial accessories have become fashion items and I’ve been trying to build up a collection. I invested some money (cost/wear ratio was totally justified) on a Tom Wood exemplar not so long ago and now my heart is totally head over heels over these Dior signet rings I bumped into during their press days. This said, I can’t wait till these gorgeous looking rings hit stores somewhere in September. In the meantime, I’ll be wandering the antique stores in search of something similar & authentic … wish me luck!
