We are of course inspired by the top trends launched by international designers, but let’s remember that Belgium is also active in this field!
In my view, Belgian designers have always brought their little touch, one that I can associate with personally. Anyone launching a fashion label is embarking on a very brave adventure, yet some do this with panache and passion. That for me sums up ‘belgitude’.
So here are some of my typically Belgian favourites.
Pullovers by Valentine Witmeur
Launched this winter, this label includes some incredible pullovers. Made in Italy and sold online, they are brilliant. The pullover is the new blazer, to be worn over fancy trousers. It looks classic and I adore it!
The Mini bag by Clio Goldbrenner
Who would ever have imagined that this brand would become so successful! In just a few years, fashionistas across Brussels have fallen in love with it. Clio is dynamic and creative, her collections are innovative and trendy and, this winter, I succumbed by buying a mini-bag!
Pajamas from Maison Marcy
Pajamas are somewhat retro, sort of feminine and masculine. I love this brand, which has dared to honour them. However, the pajama bottoms should be played with and worn with other items, such as a sweatshirt, or the top should be worn over jeans and with high heels.
The girly working bag by Yeba
Yeba designs ultra-contemporary bags and accessories, but with a feminine touch, in girly materials and colours. I love the idea behind this small bag, which is perfect for carrying a tablet and office essentials, yet doesn’t look like a school bag!
The backpack by Lilu
Yes, I know that backpacks are not trendy today, but this is an item that I’ve always loved … Made of aged leather, it’s a real beauty. And if you visit the workshop, you can get it customized and adapted just as you like. That’s great, don’t you think? In the pic I’m wearing my own backpack from Saint Laurent.
And my favourite webshop is The Chic Selection.
